Painting for textile/surface design is a trained skill.  Realism, consistency, technical repeat, colorways, all must go into consideration.  Sometimes, an artist must be able to take a swatch, and ‘fill in the blanks’ to form a repeat that can go to print.  Sometimes, all that is needed from a designer is an element or idea brought to visualization.  In all cases, a surface designer must be experienced and knowledgeable of the ever-changing industry.
